WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?

Each lesson is adapted to the specific needs of the student, but generally includes the following:
  • posture and breathing exercises
  • vocalises (vocal exercises)
  • application of technique covered in the lesson to a song
When students have no previous musical training they will also be coached in basic music theory as necessary. Tips for song interpretation, style, stage movement, career advice, etc. will also be offered as appropriate.

Students can bring in music they want to work on, or will be assigned repertoire appropriate to their vocal range in a variety of styles from the great American songbook, musical theater and contemporary pop music. (Sheet music in your own key is most helpful. If music needs to be transposed, I can refer you to an accompanist.)

Students get the most out of their instruction when they practice. Even ten minutes a day is enough to make progress – it's better to do a short amount consistently then to do a lot every once in a while (just like training at the gym!).

It is highly recommended that students bring in a cassette tape (tape recorder provided) or their own MP3 recorder to record their lesson.
