Fake It Till You Make It

Fake It Till You Make It

wonderwomanAmy Cuddy is a Harvard researcher who has been researching the effect of “power poses.”  She has discovered that not only do we affect others when we adopt a more open posture and non-verbal communication, we affect ourselves.

I’ve been telling people for years to “fake it till you make it.” Quaking in your boots before a performance? SMILE! Act confident, and you’ll start to feel more confident.  Now, there is scientific evidence that this works.  In fact, Amy says that spending just a few minutes practicing power poses before a high-evaluative scenario (think performance, presentation, job interview) can make you feel more confident and therefore, make a more powerful impression on people.  She says…”Our bodies change our minds…Our minds change our behaviors…Our behaviors change our outcomes…” You can see her entire TED talk here.
